The Work Sharp WSBCHBSS Benchstone Knife Sharpener is a versatile all-in-one knife sharpening system that can re-profile blades or simply keep knives sharp after use. The device can sharpen most long knives, though for longer blades you can sharpen them in sections. While it is not necessary to wet the stone, using water on the diamond stones is recommended to make sharpening easier without metal buildup and to reduce the scratching sound. The angle of the guides is per side, not inclusive, so the 15-degree guide will put an overall 30-degree angle on the edge, and the included 20-degree will give you a 40-degree edge. The 17-degree guide is best for sharpening factory edges of modern steel pocket knives without reprofiling. The kit does not come with all the seven different abrasive grits listed in the first line of the description, but with a 400 grit, an 800 grit, and ceramic. The sharpener can sharpen a Tops Knives Earth Skills, but for a hatchet, it is recommended to use a coarser stone rather than this unit, unless going for a super sharp edge that won't hold up with typical hatchet use. The diamond surfaces and the ceramic polish well and hone to a very sharp edge. Overall Construction is sturdy, and the blade angle guides are quite useful. There might be a small learning curve for people who have never sharpened their own knives, but once you get the hang of it, the knives come out super sharp and ready to hone. The base is a bit light and tends to slide around when sharpening on the 320 grit. Overall, the Work Sharp WSBCHBSS Benchstone Knife Sharpener is a good product that keeps knives sharp with just a bit of practice.
